Could Technology Be Harming My Kids Vision

Could technology be harming my kids vision?

It's amazing to think how technology is helping our kids learn today.  In fact, it seems like learning without technology is a disadvantage.

The good news is that technology isn't what can impact vision. But, certain blue light waves emitted from smartphones, tablets, computer monitors and similar devices can create vision risks for anyone, especially children

We protect our kids in many ways

If your child is planning to go bike riding, you would probably expect them to wear a helmet.  If they are going to play soccer, then shin guards are important.  For science or shop class, safety goggles are required.

We don't even think twice about most safety equipment.  So why not take one more precaution for your kids and provide them with blue light protection.

The two main risks of blue light

Sleep disorders - high-energy blue light suppresses natural production of melatonin, the body's natural sleep hormone.  This disrupts both the quality and quantity of sleep and can weaken natural immunities.

Retinal damage - Studies have concluded that over exposure to blue light could lead to damaged retinal cells.  This may cause vision problems like age-related macular degeneration.

Two easy ways to protect eyes from dangerous blue light waves.

1.    For people with prescription glasses, we recommend using an anti-reflective coating that filters out high-energy blue light.

Hoya's Recharge AR coating reduces eye strain by filtering out high-energy blue light. The coating also reduces distracting reflections and protects against scratches and smudge.

2.   For people who wear contact lenses or don't wear prescription eyeglasses, we recommend computer glasses like those from Blu Tech.

Blu Tech lenses are designed to protect your eyes from UV and high-energy blue light without altering or distorting color perception.
